What happens at a PREP Cooking Class? All of our regular cooking classes are hands-on, 100% participation (the few exceptions to this hands-on format are always noted as lecture or demo). Participants come, break into teams and the teams make all of the recipes on the menu for that class. Then everyone eats the food made in class. All participants get full servings of each recipe. Our classes are fun and casual but we strive to provide a high level of culinary instruction throughout the class.
If I make a reservation for a class, what should I do if I need to change or cancel my reservation? All fees paid will be refunded in full for changes and cancellations made four (4) days or more before the class date. For cancellations made three (3) days or fewer before the class date, the full class fee will be charged, PREP will retain a 30% "cost-of-goods" fee and participants will receive a Cooking Class voucher for that balance that can be applied toward a future class . No refunds, exchanges or vouchers will be given to cancellations made on the day of the class. A no call or no show will result in a loss of class fee. In the event we cancel a class a full refund will be given. Please see our full cancellation policy.
Will I eat at the class? All of our classes include a serving of all of the food prepared by the class participants, served on china with flatware and glassware. We use only the freshest ingredients possible in our classes, no ingredient is prepared, preserved or frozen (we don't even have a freezer). We often shop at the farmers markets for our produce and buy ingredients as close to the class date as possible. Our meats, fish and poultry are always fresh and the dairy products we use are hormone and preservative free and often organic.
Who teaches the classes? Professionally trained chefs teach many of our adult classes. For our kids classes and kids summer cooking camps, highly experienced members of our staff teach our children's classes at which we generally have no less than 1 staffer for every 4 kids.
How long are the classes and what is the cost per class? Our classes generally run from 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The cost per class varies but most of our adult classes are priced at $75 per person.
Do I need to bring anything? We provide nearly everything you need including ingredients, tools, utensils, recipes, etc. We do ask students to bring their own aprons. Students are welcome to bring varietal libations.
What skill level are the classes? Do I need to be an experienced cook? Most of the participants in our classes are at a beginner to intermediate skill level. Our classes are designed to accommodate all levels of participation, there are no performance requirements, no intimidation. Students are encouraged and guided to participate at their own comfort level. Our professional chefs are always close by to provide one-on-one guidance, demonstration of techniques, problem solving and helpful advice regarding regiment to or improvisation of recipes for best results.
How far in advance do I need to reserve a space in a class? Reservations for classes can be made at anytime. However, class size is limited and some classes fill up quickly.
How many people are in a class? We limit participation classes to 16 people, lecture classes to 24 people. Our 800-square foot kitchen and class area allows plenty of room to work, cook and move about. Our elegant and very functional space includes four convection ovens, a six burner range, warming drawers, refrigerator, beverage cooler, wine steward, coffee station and entertainment center. Our clean up and dishwashing area is completely separate from the class space, dirty tools and dishes are regularly whisked away by our efficient and friendly staff. In the event that we do not get enough sign-ups and have to cancel a class, we will contact participants and any fees paid will be fully refunded.
Will I get the recipes made in the class? All students receive printed recipes of the dishes prepared in the class. Menus, recipes and chefs are subject to change due to availability or other factors.
Can I bring my own beverage? We serve water, tea and coffee during our classes. We welcome participants to bring other beverages.
Can I arrange a private class at PREP? Our kitchen, classroom and chefs are available for private functions, parties, corporate and community events. Click here or call for more details or call us at 562-430-1217.
